Dear employees and residents of Hrafnista.
On the occasion of Fisherman's Day, I would like to send you all heartfelt holiday greetings on behalf of the Seamen's Day Council - Hrafnista's parent company - and share with you a small fragment of the remarkable story behind this unique community of ours.
In the beginning, the Seamen's Day Council was founded in 1937 by fishermen in the capital area with the sole aim of celebrating Seamen's Day. But this initial goal quickly became something much bigger and more Soon after the establishment of the Seamen's Day Council, the group stepped in and decided to undertake one of the biggest and most important welfare projects that Icelandic society has had - to build homes and services for the elderly. Thus, the foundation for Hrafnista was laid.
Behind this initiative was a strong sense of empathy, a sense of responsibility and a vision for the sailors - that no one should be forgotten as the years passed Those who had taken the sea while they were allowed, also deserved a stately and warm home when they came ashore - for a good life in their later years.
Since then, Hrafnista has grown and prospered - today we are the country's largest single service unit for the elderly, with a wide range of services, powerful human resources and a vision based on respect, presence and quality. And it is thanks to you - staff, who daily put their hearts and hands to the work, and to you residents, who have Hrafnistu with your presence, history and life experience.
On the occasion of Sailors' Day, we especially decorate Hrafnista's home - not only in honor of the sailors, but also to remind us all of the beginning and purpose that draws the thread between generations The ornament is a symbolic memory of when the sailors set out on the journey that became Hrafnistu - and we continue together with the same ideal as a guide: to provide the country's senior citizens with the best possible service with warmth, dignity and respect.
