Hrafnistu's research fund recently awarded two grants for projects, but the fund's role is to support research and projects that strengthen the issue of the elderly in this country with the aim of promoting innovations and development in issues related to the elderly.
Luis Gísli Rabelo received a grant in the amount of ISK 600,000 for his doctoral research Assessment of severity in Icelandic surgical patients and their outcomes after surgery. The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of an increased risk of frailty among patients aged 70 and over who undergo elective surgery and to do so use certain screening tests. By doing so, it is possible to shed light on the relationship between the risks of complications after surgery in patients who screen for cramps. In this way, it would be possible to identify an optimal group of individuals who could benefit from further evaluation by an geriatrician and/or pre-operative rehabilitation and to assess the extent of the services that poor individuals benefit from in the run-up to the procedure.
Bjarney Gunnarsdóttir received a grant of ISK 400,000 for her project Unite generations - selection phase at junior high. The project is about preparing study materials and teaching guides for elective courses at the junior level of elementary school. It is intended as a collaborative project between primary schools and nursing homes where students in grades 9 and 10 attend regular visits to nursing home residents The aim of the project is to introduce young people to the lives and work of nursing homes, to promote mental well-being, communication across generations, and to increase physical activity and activity in older people living in nursing homes. With regular visits by young people to older people in nursing homes, it is possible to create a social project that gives young and old people an increased purpose and the feeling of belonging to their community.
Hrafnistu Research Fund sincerely congratulates the beneficiaries.
