Welcome to Hrafnista
Hrafnistu's philosophy
Hrafnista's vision for the future is to be a leader in geriatric care in Iceland. To take purposeful steps towards this vision, we are constantly working towards the goal of providing excellent service so that residents, other service recipients and relatives experience safety, trust and well-being. To support Hrafnista's main goals, we work according to a philosophy that describes what experience, culture and feeling we want to create for both residents and staff. Hrafnistu emphasizes that the environment is homely, warm and safe, where residents are encouraged to participate in the decisions and activities of daily life. Ideology is the heart of Hrafnista's activities, but along with it, we work systematically on certain projects across all Hrafnist homes that are intended to improve the working environment and develop the service.
Hrafnista is the home of people and Hrafnista's philosophy is that the activities and procedures of the departments are flexible and depend on the needs of the individual himself. The same applies in other services within Hrafnista Hrafnista. Hrafnista's staff are there for residents and relatives. Part of creating a homely feel and providing excellent service is that residents are encouraged to actively participate in decision-making about their interests. This refers to, for example, when they want to get up, when they want to go to sleep, what they want to wear, participation in mealtimes and what they want to do during the day.
The history of life and its use
An important tool to get to know the residents is the so-called life story that everyone gets sent to fill in during the move to the home. It contains questions about the resident, for example, hobbies, family welfare and more. With a carefully filled-in life history, caregivers have the opportunity to know the needs of the resident better and be able to communicate more intensively with them. Home occupational therapists use life history in their daily work, for example when planning social activities. It is therefore important that relatives help the resident to fill out the life story.

Residents' and relatives' agents
Hrafnista has agents from residents and relatives. The role of the ombudsman is to protect the interests of Hrafnista residents and to be close to relatives if needed. Agents are part of Hrafnista's management team and are in close contact with the managers of nursing departments.
Agents call for a briefing ca. 3-4 weeks after the resident moves to the home and at that meeting reviews his situation, how things have gone and what can be done better This meeting also reviews practical issues and explains how the organization of medical and nursing services is conducted and other things related to the move At this meeting, relatives have the opportunity to discuss the issues they feel are important to bring forward that concern the life history and status of residents, and agents follow up on those issues in collaboration with nursing department managers.
Agents also deal with complex issues that may arise in the homes if the head of department deems it to be in the residents' interest that more people come to solve the problem. Nursing department heads therefore contact agents if needed.

Holidays
Many relatives reflect on celebrations when a loved one moves to a nursing homeWe at Hrafnista understand these speculations and emphasize that each resident can have beautiful holidays whether it's at home with the family or with us at Hrafnista It's very different how best to plan such days It depends on the health, day shape and circumstances of the resident Some residents want and can go to the family's house, but not all of them A large part of our population has become grumpy and don't trust themselves to be around many or long away They would even enjoy spending more time together at Hrafnista with their closest people.
At Hrafnista, we celebrate every public holiday. There we do our best to create a cozy and festive atmosphere. Tables are draped and decorated, festive food is served and everyone is in their finest polish.
Families can create holiday moments with their loved ones by thinking a little outside the boxWe've seen many beautiful moments together take place at different times than tradition tells us.
Visits
There is no set visiting time at Hrafnista Guests are welcome at the times that suit them and the resident It is best to always think this in line with the needs of the resident being visited Due to the safety of the residents and staff, the main door of the homes is locked at certain times and then a doorbell must be rung in order to be opened.
Pets are welcome to visit Hrafnista.
Finance and co-payment in accommodation costs
When a pensioner moves to a nursing home, pension payments from the National Insurance Institute (TR) are canceled. With the cancellation of payments, the right to disposable income is created, which is income-related. It is important that applicants familiarize themselves with the participation in accommodation costs and the cost of living on the TR website, which calculates cost participation. Hrafnista collects residents' cost participation on behalf of TR and a payment slip appears in the residents' home bank. Those who need to contact Hrafnista regarding residents' co-payment can contact Hrafnistu's accounting department, but an email address and phone number can be found in the contact list at the end of the manual.
Legal domicile
A legal domicile is the place where a person has a permanent residence. A legal domicile is therefore often moved to the nursing home. It is up to residents or relatives to change their legal domicile at the National Register.

Welfare technology
Hrafnista uses welfare technology to increase quality and safety in the service. An example is an electronic medical record, the Iðunn applet, which promotes an increased flow of information between different professional groups due to the care needs of the population, an eMed electronic medication card, a Medicines monitor that manages registrations of medication and medication administration, and a medical call system. All these systems require staff to use work phones during monitoring and registration. Hrafnistu's work phones also enable employees to access education and courses where Hrafnista places great emphasis on maintaining the professional knowledge of staff.

Health services
Nursing and medical services
The main goal of nursing and medical services at Hrafnista is to maintain or increase the quality of life, and all treatment is based on that. It is a nursing-led medical service that involves nurses assessing the need for medical involvement. Doctors on behalf of Health Protection perform medical services in the homes.
At Hrafnista, 24-hour nursing and medical services are provided, and when moving to the home, responsibility for nursing and medical treatment is transferred entirely to Hrafnista's specialists, including decisions on drug treatment. Hrafnista's doctors take care of all prescriptions, as well as decisions about referrals to specialist doctors outside the home are made by doctors and nurses of the home. In those cases, Hrafnista pays travel expenses related to visits to doctors, and the same applies to research carried out outside the home. To ensure safety in population drug treatment, it is necessary to inform the nurse about all the drugs, including herbal medicines, vitamins and food supplements, taken by the resident and not prescribed by a doctor.
When the health of the population begins to deteriorate, it is good to have thought about what his attitude is related to interventions in a great or immediate return to health and his will related to treatment at the end of life. Following a loved one at the last step in life can be a valuable life experience and emphasis is placed on good communication and cooperation with the residents and his family.
Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
The mission of physical and occupational therapy is to maintain and/or enhance the skills of the population and is an important part of enhancing their quality of life Physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide both individual and group training, and professional assessment takes into account the ability and interest of each individual in the planning of training Hrafnistu's physical and occupational therapists assess the need for assistive devices, apply for them, and adapt to the needs of the affected population.
A fixed program run by physical and occupational therapy takes place during the daytime hours on weekdays. On the departmental information boards, you can see the program.
Dental services
At Hrafnista, staff make an effort to maintain the good dental and oral health of the population as it has a significant impact on quality of life and well-being At Hrafnista, there is a practicing dental technician who advises on issues related to dental health, while nurses assess the need for his involvement. Also, Hrafnista collaborates with two dental offices. One treats the residents who do not have their own family dentist and the other treats the residents who cannot receive dental care outside the home.
Residents who are regularly monitored by their dentist continue to do so.

Unfortunately, it can happen that hearing aids are lost in residents of nursing homes and there can be various reasons for this. Hrafnista is not responsible for hearing aids and does not improve them if they are lost or destroyed. Iceland's health insurance supports individuals by a certain amount to purchase hearing aids. What to do if the tooth palate or tooth part is damaged or lost in Hrafnista?
Unfortunately, it can happen that the tooth palate or part of the tooth is either lost or damaged in residents. Hrafnista does not compensate for damage or loss of the gums or parts of the teeth. Is the residents' birthday celebrated?
On the grand anniversary of the residents, the day is celebrated in the ward and refreshments are offered to the residents of the ward If the relatives wish to have a birthday for family and friends, they can bring refreshments to the ward, and in some homes, facilities for such gatherings can be rented, it is important to plan this in consultation with the head of department.
Can guests come for dinner?
Guests are not expected for dinner at Hrafnista's nursing wards, but everyone is welcome to bring food to the resident and eat with him. Then it can be good to use his room if possible or borrow a suitable space in consultation with the department's staff. On holidays, you can order food for one relative and it is advertised separately.
Can relatives stay?
It is generally not expected that relatives stay with residents, but in special cases it is welcome. This is especially true if the resident is very ill or if the circumstances are such temporarily that it is considered that it is better for residents to have someone close to them during such a situation. Relatives need to talk to a nurse on duty about whether there is accommodation equipment (eg mattress/chair/sofa/blanket). However, it is important that the room can be easily accessible to take care of the resident 24 hours a day.
Can residents go on a trip?
Yes, residents can travel both domestically and abroad if relatives trust themselves to take them on such trips The cost of all trips is entirely the responsibility of the resident We point out the need to review all travel insurance as the cost of medical visits abroad can become significant.
It is important to plan such trips well and in consultation with the head of department of the relevant department. If a resident takes medication on a regular basis, he must bring those medication with him and the next of kin is responsible for administering them during the trip.
Travel abroad is the sole responsibility of residents/relatives, and a statement from Hrafnista must be signed to that effect when such a trip is made with residents. More information can be found from the managers of nursing departments.
