A fire broke out in an electrical panel on the 1st floor of Hrafnista's nursing home at Sléttuveg from 10:30 this morning. Considerable smoke was generated, which caused 22 residents from the 1st floor and 11 residents to be moved from the ground floor of the building, where smoke and water had arrived down there. The fire department, police and Hrafnista staff reacted quickly, the fire was very successful and the evacuation proceeded quickly. No one was accused, but work is being done to find temporary spaces for 22 residents while the building is being smoked. It is uncertain when it will end and to begin with the day stay at Sléttuveg will be closed for that reason.
Hrafnista's representatives have already contacted the residents' relatives and will continue to inform them about the progress of the situation.
The Seamen's Council and Hrafnista's representatives would like to take this opportunity to thank the fire brigade, the police and Hrafnista's staff for their quick and purposeful work practices in these challenging conditions.
