64 new nursing spaces in Hrafnista in Boðaþing

The Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, the Minister of Health, the Mayor of Kópavogur and Hrafnista's guardians today opened a new 64-space nursing home in Boðaþing in Kópavogur. There are 44 spaces in Boðaþing, and the number of nursing spaces has thus become 108. It is safe to say that this is an important phase in the development of nursing homes in this country, as the waiting lists are long, not least in the capital area. Ownership is jointly in the hands of the state and Kópavogur town, while Hrafnista takes care of the operation.

The new building in Boðaþing is a total of 4,160 m2 in size and offers quality service space. The fully equipped quality of life core is thus built in Boðaþing, where Hrafnista and Kópavogsbær will run a mix of DAS rental apartments, a service center and now a large and good nursing home. María Fjóla Harðardóttir, CEO of Hrafnista, says the new building is extremely beautiful and warm: „We look forward to welcoming new residents, but they have a magnificent view of the balcony and from the dining room of the home, which changes their appearance with the weather and seasons. It is like a living painting that nature paints every day“.“

Design and Building
In the spring months of 2022, a competition was held for the design and construction of the home The proposal of THG Arkitekta and ÍSTAK was successful. Design based on the winning proposal began immediately after the competition and earthworks began in May 2023. the work has progressed rapidly and now the construction is fully completed. The State Administration (FSRE) handled tendering issues and project management on behalf of project buyers.

Hrafnista is the largest operator of geriatric services in the country and operates a total of eight residential homes in five municipalities. The company is a non-profit subsidiary of the Seamen's Day Council, which has been running Hrafnista's residential home for almost seventy years. Hrafnista's main goal is to provide excellent service so that residents, other service users and relatives experience safety, trust and well-being.
